External Tournaments

While a hub for academic, social, and personal development, the Hart House Debating Club is primarily the centre for competitive inter-collegiate debate at the University of Toronto, and Greater Toronto Area.

Sending teams across Canada, from Vancouver, Calgary, Montreal, and Halifax, the Hart House Debating Club also subsidises teams to attend international tournaments, like Oxford IV or the Worlds University Debating Championships.

Below, you will find a tournament calendar for upcoming events and opportunities, how we select teams and judges to tournaments, and a general tournament FAQ!

How to Attend?

At the Hart House Debating Club, we prioritise a diverse set of values that range from competitiveness, development, mentorship, equity, and service. For this reason, the HHDC Tournament Selection Committee evaluates bids to attend HHDC-subsidised tournaments on a plethora of reasons.

if you wish to attend tournaments, all we wish to see is a genuine effort and dedication to the club, our community, and debate as a sport! Attending weekly meetings, placing well at tournaments, contributing back to the club by judging internal tournaments, and making an effort to encourage and welcome Novices all contribute to increasing your chances of attending tournaments!
